Women's Healing Circle at SEORJ

People's Justice League co-facilitates a women's healing circle in collaboration with the Southeast Ohio Suvivor Advocacy Outreach Program for women incarcerated at Southeast Ohio Regional Jail. We meet weekly to work through the Courage to Heal Workbook and discuss needed supports and resources. Since SEORJ is a temporary facility, we have also donated copies of the workbook to the libraries at the two Ohio women's prisons so that women being transferred there may continue their healing work. The majority of the women we see are mothers incarcerated on drug-related offenses—78% of addicts are trauma survivors. It is our hope that if folks are supported in their healing during forced sobriety while incarcerated, they may be able to begin to deal with the underlying causes of their addiction and be less likely to go back to the addiction upon their release. We hope to expand this area of programming and begin working with incarcerated men when funding allows.
